Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The reception ceremony for the newly appointed Director General of the Directorate of Nationality, Civil Registry, Passport, and Immigration, Maj. Gen. Simon Majur Pabek, has been postponed until Thursday.<\/p>\n

The ceremony, originally scheduled for today, was abruptly cancelled due to a newly amended law that prohibits the swearing-in of police director generals.<\/p>\n

Following the adjournment, acting Director for Administration and Finance Brig. Mangar Aping informed journalists that the ceremony was rescheduled for tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have adjourned the reception of our new director general for Immigration for tomorrow,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur program will start tomorrow at 7 and that will be the arrival of all our forces around here then 7:30 to 8:00 will be the arrival of the new DG and then after the arrival of the new DG, our IGP will come after and then soon, he arrived, we will start our program of receiving the new DG,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He detailed the revised program, outlining the arrival times of various participants, including the new Director General and Inspector General of Police.<\/p>\n

Aping further explained that the law changes prohibited swearing-in for directors of both Customs and Immigration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have amended the law and there is no swearing in for all the directors, director of Customs or director of Immigration because the law has already been amended,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has been briefed by the minister and then IGP and IGP is bringing him tomorrow not in the capacity of IGP but in the capacity of the former DG of Immigration,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He clarified that while Gen. Majur was officially appointed through a presidential decree on January 26, 2024, the ceremony would focus on welcoming him in his new role rather than a formal swearing-in.<\/p>\n

Previously, Gen. Majur served as the Deputy Director General of Immigration before succeeding General Atem Marol Biar, who was appointed Inspector General of Police by President Kiir in November 2023.<\/p>\n
