Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Western Equatoria State will commence the yellow fever vaccination today after the ministry received the jab from the national Ministry of Health early this month.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The City Review on Monday, the Minister of Health in Western Equatoria, James Abdullah, said that everything was in place to commence the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will start the vaccination of the yellow fever tomorrow (Tuesday) after the launch and continue for seven days as planned by the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the vaccines are currently sent to the health centres in Yambio, Nzara, and Tambura counties.\u201d<\/p>\n

The acting manager for immunisation in Western Equatoria, Anisa Charles, stated that the state targets to vaccinate more than 402,506 people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have received 410,600 doses for the yellow fever, and we are targeting to vaccinate 402,506 people in western Equatoria State in the next seven days of the vaccination campaign,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have three centres, so the vaccination is going to be in three counties, and in the centres, we have a team of 185 vaccination teams, each comprising six people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Amisa added that Yambio County has 97 vaccination teams, Nzare County has 41, and Tambura has 47, making a total of 185 vaccination teams.<\/p>\n

Last month, the national Ministry of Health announced the arrival of over 400,000 doses of the yellow fever vaccine, which is supplied by the International Coordinating Group to respond to the outbreak of yellow fever in Western Equatoria State. The vaccine will be distributed and rolled out in Western Equatoria\u2019s countries, which are Yambio, Nzara, and Tambura counties.<\/p>\n

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, yellow fever is a virus that is spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito.<\/p>\n

Initial symptoms can include a sudden onset of fever, chills, severe headache, back pain, general body aches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue (feeling tired), and weakness.<\/p>\n
