Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan Football Association on Monday crowned Jamus FC as the champions of the 13th Edition of South Sudan Cup 13th, following the chaotic final against El-Merriekh FC Bentiu.<\/p>\n

Citing article 87 of the SSFA General Regulation, the ruling was made in a meeting of the Organizing Committee of the South Sudan National Cup at SSFA Headquarters.<\/p>\n

The meeting, chaired by Mr. Wiyual Lam Puoch, discussed the event that took place during Sunday\u2019s match between El Merriekh FC (Bentiu) and Jamus FC (Juba), in which fans invaded the pitch and started breaking chairs and running around, prompting police to fire shots in the air.<\/p>\n

The match, attended by senior officials including Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga, was abandoned during a penalty shootout at Buluk Training Center after both teams drew 1:1 in the field.<\/p>\n

Jamus netted 18 minutes into the game leaving El-Meriekh trailing through the first half.<\/p>\n

It was only at the 51st minute that El-Meriekh\u2019s Chikidi Koang scored to cancel Jamus FC\u2019s 1-0 advantage before the game headed for penalties.<\/p>\n

During the shootout, El-Merriek had four kicks where they scored two goals and missed two, while Jamus scored three and were about to have the fourth kick, when fans stormed the field.<\/p>\n

Chaos ensued afterwards as wild fans started breaking chairs and running around, prompting police to fire shots in the air.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the committee listened to the reports of each of the match officials, the administrative observer, and the Head of the Security Committee supervising the match.<\/p>\n

In consideration of the mentioned reports, El-Merrekh FC were pronounced the runners up through a score of 0:2, and they will be deprived of their percentage of the tournament income in accordance article 78 of SSFA general regulation 2012 amended 2019.<\/p>\n

El-Merriekh were also warned to advise their fans against any repetition of such behaviors.<\/p>\n
