Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has condemned last week\u2019s attack in Duk County of Jonglei State, calling for urgent intervention from the government to prevent further clashes among the conflicting communities in the area.<\/p>\n

At least 7 people were killed and four others injured in the attack, the police confirmed.<\/p>\n

Jonglei Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Elia Costa told Sudans Post in an interview on Sunday that the last week\u2019s attack occurred when women had gone to collect firewood.<\/p>\n

CEPO\u2019s Executive Director, Edmund Yakani said there is a rise in cases of insecurity in Duk.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe series of deadly armed incidence in Duk may trigger deadly armed revenge in the area [and] therefore urgent intervention from the government is required before things get out of control among the conflicting communities of Jonglei State,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Yakani called for investigations into the attack, saying perpetrators be held accountable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose communities conflicting with the population of Duk should be held accountable in their negative actions against innocent people,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

Yakani said CEPO will work Gadyan Peace Village as part of a long term solutions for promotion of peaceful co-existence among the conflicting communities of Jongeli state.<\/p>\n

Last month, 28 people were killed and 7,000 head of cattle was raided when assailants suspected to be from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) attacked cattle camps in Duk County\u2019s Poktap town.<\/p>\n

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) condemned the attack, calling on all the parties involved to cease the violence, avoid reprisal attacks and use peaceful means to resolve their grievances.<\/p>\n

It urged Jonglei State and the GPAA authorities to enter into dialogue and bring the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n
