Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairperson of the South Sudan Chamber of Commerce is calling on the government to address the cost of electricity in Juba, describing it as the most expensive in the world.<\/p>\n

Business Tycoon Ladu Lukak made the statement during the opening of the second Juba economic conference on Monday in Juba.<\/p>\n

According to 211 CHECK, South Sudan leads East Africa with \u2018most expensive\u2019 electricity charges.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Juba Economic Forum, Lukak urges the authorities to look into the cost of electricity.<\/p>\n

\u201cElectricity in South Sudan is the most expensive electricity in the world, what kind of electricity is that? imagine after you buy units with 100 US dollars, it\u2019s like being pulled, in a short period, you are surprised to see the units gone,\u201d said Lukaka.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis issue of electricity needs to be addressed with a solution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A 211 Check report in 2021 has revealed South Sudan in the East African region the country with the most expensive domestic electricity charges.<\/p>\n

The report stated that the lead company supplying electricity in Juba has the highest electric fee per kWh charges in the region.<\/p>\n

The brief study carried out by 211 Check featured all East African countries and some of South Sudan\u2019s neighbouring countries, to compare electricity rates per kWh.<\/p>\n

These included Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda.<\/p>\n

According to the findings, South Sudan took the lead with $0.36 charges, followed by Tanzania with $0.12, Kenya and Rwanda grabbed the third position with $0.09 charges respectively, while Uganda came in the fifth position with $0.07.<\/p>\n

On the last phase with fewer electricity charges, was Burundi which seized the sixth position with $0.03, Sudan and DR Congo ranked second last with $0.02, while Ethiopia was classified last with $ 0.01, the lowest charge.<\/p>\n
