Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, James Pitia Morgan has called for immediate lifting of sanctions on the country.<\/p>\n

He was on Friday speaking at this year\u2019s Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Tu\u0308rkiye.<\/p>\n

Pitia said the sanctions on South Sudan have hindered the country\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am appealing to the UN [United Nations] to play an active role in advocating for the removal of sanctions that impede South Sudan\u2019s development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pitia urged the UN-member states to push for removal of South Sudan sanctions.<\/p>\n

The Antalya Diplomatic Forum attracted heads of states, government officials, diplomats, business leaders, academics, representatives from youth and media.<\/p>\n

The three-day forum aimed at facilitating comprehensive discussions and explored peaceful solutions to the global challenges the world currently faces.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the UN Security Council imposed an arms embargo on South Sudan. In May 2023, the Council adopted a resolution to renew the embargo for a year.<\/p>\n
