Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Western Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap leaders have jointly rallied their communities to shun the land-related conflict and embrace peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n

Governor Sarah Cleto led a delegation to Kuajok on Friday to link up with her counterpart Kuol Muor Muor where they held a Peace and Security Rally attended by hundreds of people.<\/p>\n

The event was organized under the theme \u201cTo Consolidate our Effort Toward Peaceful Co-existence\u201d and seeks to sensitize communities to end inter-communal hostilities and live in peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cI encouraged the audience to abandon senseless fights, stop spreading rumors, and work for peace and unity among our communities and in the country,\u201d Cleto said in a press statement.<\/p>\n

Land-related conflict between border communities in Warrap State and Western Bar el Ghazal, further escalated by the creation or abrogation of the 32 states, has killed dozens of people, destroyed properties and displaced thousands, according to media reports.<\/p>\n

The latest attack was on February 5, 2024, when dozens of people, including high-ranking security officers, were killed in Jur River County of Western Bahr el Ghazal, according to state government.<\/p>\n

A week later, Warrap State government said about 110 police personnel heading to Kuajok through Western Bahr el Ghazal, were ambushed in Tharkueng Payam leading to a sporadic gunfire.<\/p>\n

Governor Cleto said Warrap Deputy Governor Aluel Garang called on the \u201csisterly communities\u201d to end violence with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

While Governor Kuol Muor Muor appealed to all communities to use the opportunity to bring peace and unity between Warrap and Western Bahr El-Ghazal states.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also agreed to continue engaging the citizens, members of the organized forces, political and local leaders in dialogue to end violence and restore peace in the sisterly states,\u201d Cleto said.<\/p>\n
