Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Unity State governor Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil called on communities in the southern counties to end hostilities and embrace peaceful coexistence as he arrived in Leer County on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Heavily guarded Governor Manytuil travelled to Leer town late on Thursday, embarking on a long-awaited tour to consolidate peace in the southern part of the state, previously plagued by deadly violence.<\/p>\n

The governor and his accompanying were received by county officials and hundreds of people including chiefs and women groups, majority of whom were clad in the trademark SPLM T-shirts.<\/p>\n

A press statement from his office said Governor Manytuil emphasized that peace must be prioritized by everyone as the most important key to development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should all together work for it and refrain any divisive policy that brings conflict and dyunity among our people,\u201d said the governor.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s through the present of peace the state government would be able to carry out constitutional mandate to render basic necessities to our people.\u201d<\/p>\n

His office said Manytuil reaffirmed his commitment to rehabilitate the murram road from Leer town up to Adok Port, and a dyke around Leer Town to shield the area from seasonal flooding.<\/p>\n

Manytuil reportedly vowed to build the road connecting Unity State with Juba through Madol of Mayiandit County as alternative lifeline road to enhancing mobility of our people and goods.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Leer County commissioner Hon Stephen Taker Riek Dong reportedly raised the challenges facing his people, including roads inaccessibility, lack of infrastructural development and a border dispute between sisterly communities of Dok and Haak.<\/p>\n

Before heading to Leer, Governor Manytuil held a similar peace rally in neighboring Rubkuai Payam of Mayiandit County on Wednesday, attended by thousands of people.<\/p>\n
