Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan government has warned traders over electronic wastes importation.<\/p>\n

Speaking at an e-waste management workshop in Juba on Monday, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services, Dr. Lado Wani Kenyi said the importation of electronic equipment is a threat to the environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to warn traders against the importation of used electronic equipment to the country. The donated and used electronic gadgets contribute massively to the electronic waste in South Sudan,\u201d said Wani.<\/p>\n

For his part, however, the Undersecretary in the Environment and Forestry ministry, Joseph Africano Bartel said the country has developed strategies on how to manage pollution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe workshop will create an enabling strategy for the country to develop its management plan for e-wastes,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

The three-day workshop was organized by the National Communication Authority (NCA) of South Sudan in collaboration with the East Africa Communication Organization (EACO). It brought together delegates from the Ministry of ICT&PS, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, telecom operators, among others.<\/p>\n
