Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>A delegation led by South Sudan\u2019s Agriculture minister, Lily Albino Akol are in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State for the land preparation launch in the capital, Aweil.<\/p>\n

The launch is part of efforts to prepare citizens for this year\u2019s crop planting season.<\/p>\n

During the event to be held at Aweil Rice Scheme on Wednesday, land preparation messages will be disseminated to the population in show of the commitment to combat food insecurity.<\/p>\n

Speaking at e meeting held in the state secretariat, the Agriculture minister said government and its partner are in Aweil to ascertain the food insecurity level in the state.<\/p>\n

The state has, in recent months, witnessed a huge population of returnees from Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in the state to find out how food insecure the local population are. And our intent is to encourage the production of food through various initiatives such as having Aweil Rice Scheme where we shall launch the land preparations messages,\u201d said Akol.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would also like to tell every member of household to get engage in production of food be it subsistence farming or other methods of putting food on the table. As a nation, we can\u2019t be well off when we rely on imports,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The state governor, Tong Aken Ngor, said the influx of returnees pose a huge challenge.<\/p>\n

He lauded the team led by the Agriculture minister for implementing strategies to combat food insecurity among the population in the state, while acknowledging the support provided by development partners like the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).<\/p>\n
