Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>President Salva Kiir said on Thursday that he and fellow comrades have done their part by liberating South Sudan to independence, urging young people to carry forward the task of nation building.<\/p>\n

Kiir directed his remarks at Bank Governor Dr. James Alic Garang, and Alangi Stephen Ogut, a young woman whom he sworn-in on Thursday as a non-executive board member of the institution.<\/p>\n

Ms. Ogut was recently appointed by the Central Bank governor, Dr Garang. Kiir said he is happy to see young leaders like Alangi taking up key roles in the nation\u2019s financial sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy that you are swearing-in today. Young people are taking over slowly but surely. My daughter, this is the work of the new generation,\u201d Kiir said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that we have liberated the country for you. The generation you take it up from where we are and then move forward with it. Alic, take up your duty and progress in your work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the governor of the Central Bank James Alic Garang encouraged the new board member to advise and challenge him whenever he deviates from his duty.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate the president for bringing you to help us and save at the board so that all of us can support His Excellency in serving the people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou pick up the tasks of a board member which is to challenge the leadership including me at the back. If there are things that I do that are not straight speak out and tell me so that I do the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new board member took oath as the Central Bank grappled with soaring inflation that has made it hard for most families to put food on the table.<\/p>\n

The Bank recently unveiled measures to curb hoarding, a strategy aimed at controlling the exchange rate amid the rising consumer prices in the country.<\/p>\n
