Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The National Minister of Information has described South Sudanese individuals captured while fighting alongside the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan as \u201cfortune seekers\u201d and they should face trial according to Sudanese law.<\/p>\n

Michael Makuei made remarks after the Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, March 15, 2024.<\/p>\n

Sudan Tribune reported that the Sudanese army captured 14 South Sudanese following the recapture of the Radio and Television Corporation headquarters on 12 March 2024.<\/p>\n

The individuals were arrested for allegedly fighting alongside the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/p>\n

Micheal Makuei says the South Sudanese arrested are not under the control of the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Sudanese who happened to be there [Sudan] it is not our duty, of course, these people are not under us. These people might have decided to rebel against the government and fight the other group for us,\u201d Makuei said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are fortune seekers because these days you are paid to go and fight as mercenaries so we do not know what they are doing over there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce the Sudan government arrested them, then they should be tried according to the provision of that law. We cannot go and protect them because we did not authorize them to act like that\u201d.<\/p>\n
