Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) chairperson in Abyei, Ajak Deng has urged international aid agencies to double their efforts towards addressing the conditions of returnees and refugees currently living in Abyei area.<\/p>\n

He said hundreds of thousands of people fled Sudan\u2019s ongoing conflict into Abyei.<\/p>\n

Ajak said most of the refugees and returnees come from the border entry points.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number is huge, we are having about 25,000 returnees and refugee now living in squalid and makeshift shelters,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n

According to Ajak, harsh conditions makes integration into communities difficult.<\/p>\n

He, however, lauded Abyei administrative authorities for supporting the returnees.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are appealing for support as we don\u2019t know when the crisis in Sudan will stop. We are appealing to the kind-hearted individuals more specially the international community to support these returnees as their conditions are catastrophic, especially food insecurity,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

The official further decried the recent communal violence that occurred between the Twic Dinka and armed men suspected to be from Unity State.<\/p>\n
