Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Government of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State has secured USD7 million meant support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the impact of floods.<\/p>\n

Sebastian Ochan, state Cabinet Affairs minister told Sudans Post that the funds will help to construct dykes, feeder roads and water pathways, among others.<\/p>\n

He said they would rely on assessments done by international organizations to identify the most flood-prone sites prior to the implementation of projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe agreed in the meeting and came up with reaching out to the deep or hard to reach areas during rainy season so that those areas are not cut off. So we shall consult community chiefs, women and county authorities to come up with plans of how to spend the funds especially in flood-prone areas,\u201d noted Ochan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to utilize the money so that the communities realize the meaning of funding the donation from World Bank, and we would like the World Bank to evaluate how we have used their money in a meaningful manner,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Jacob, a facilitator during a consultative meeting held on Wednesday, said they would collaborate with government to access the most affected areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are meeting stakeholders to identify the areas affected by flood with the communities of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State. Our aim is to ensure that the project starts before the onset of the rainy season,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear how the rest of the funds would be utilized.<\/p>\n
