Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Bank of South Sudan opened a new branch at Nimule on Saturday to transform non-oil revenue collection.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the launch, Bank of South Sudan Governor Dr. James Alic Garang said the new branch will effectively boost revenue collection.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpening the Nimule branch today will create jobs for locals while raising revenue for the government. I call upon all stakeholders to support this noble objective as the bank explores other options to open branches in other locations across your beloved country,\u201d said Garang.<\/p>\n

Garang said the border branch will raise optimism in realizing more revenue from taxes and fees.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the bank looks forward to your support, I encourage, challenge, urge and even plead to all of us to roll out our slip and to see into it that Nimule becomes operational,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Trade and Industry Minister William Anyuon Kuol said the branch will help the government streamline revenue collection.<\/p>\n

\u2018You know this branch here, the Central Bank that we have here, we will manage to make sure we streamline the revenues. All the government money that is collected from Nimule here must be deposited into the bank. These commissions that are taken don\u2019t reach us, if they collected 1 million SSP, they will only be 100,000 SSP,\u201d said Anyuon.<\/p>\n

South Sudan National Revenue Authority Commissioner General Africano Mande said it will reduce corruption at the border.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey show us in the paper that this is the money we have collected but when it reaches there, some money will be missing, and we don\u2019t know where the money is going and I want to know this,\u201d said Mande.<\/p>\n

Nimule remains South Sudan\u2019s biggest dry port and most important import lifeline. The Bank of South Sudan has opened branches in all regions, including key towns like Rumbek, Aweil, and Yei, as well as other crucial border inlets.<\/p>\n
