Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>More than 400 vulnerable Muslims benefited from Ramadan food packages distributed by the Turkish embassy in South Sudan on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The items included cooking oil, beans, rice, sugar, maize flour, among others.<\/p>\n

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), handed over the donations to South Sudan Islamic Council at Juba Islamic University in Juba.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, the Turkish ambassador to South Sudan, Erdem Mutaf said the food package was part of Turkish outreach to needy South Sudanese.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the start of Ramadan, Turkish agencies and Turkish charities are active in South Sudan in reaching out to needy South Sudanese for food distribution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Mutaf, the Tu\u0308rkiye Diyanet Foundation distributed food packages to about 10,000 families in five different areas in Juba over the last two weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always been said that Tu\u0308rkiye is standing with South Sudanese people on every occasion, our assistance and humanitarian aid is not limited to the holy month of Ramadan and after Ramadan, we will take many steps to bring our food and humanitarian aid to South Sudanese in different areas,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

For his part, Abdallah Baraj, Secretary General of South Sudan Islamic Council said they were happy with the food aid received from the Turkish government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ask almighty God to strengthen Tu\u0308rkiye, protect Tu\u0308rkiye and provide them with enough resources so that they can deliver humanitarian assistance to us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Bilateral relations have been developing between Turkey and South Sudan ever since the East African nation attained its independence from neighbouring Sudan in July 2011.<\/p>\n

Economic and commercial relations between Turkey and South Sudan has considerable potential, with trade volumes between the two countries reportedly reaching $6.2 million in 2020. Turkey imports from South Sudan was $677 during 2022, the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade shows.<\/p>\n
