Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>An organization based in El Fasher City of North Darfur State, Nujoom Alqad for Development Center, has trained local media professionals in peace and ethical journalism.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the Nujoom Alqad Center, Ayyoub Abdel-Rasoul told Radio Tamazuj Friday that the workshop, which was conducted in Al Fashir on Thursday, covered the role of the media in promoting peace through adherence to the journalistic Code of Ethics.<\/p>\n

“We work in training and civic education, and this workshop is part of a project supported by Save the World to promote peace through trauma mitigation and psychological support in Al Fashir.”<\/p>\n

Abdel-Rasoul said media professionals are the backbone of peace-building because they influence public opinion.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, journalist Noon Al-Barmaki, a participant, stated, “This workshop is important for journalists and media professionals in the state, especially at a time when journalists compete for breaking news without adhering to professional standards. Additionally, the workshop also addressed content creation.”<\/p>\n

Al-Barmaki said local journalists benefitted from the workshop and would apply what they learned.<\/p>\n

Since the outbreak of the war between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, journalists in Sudan have faced assaults, threats, enforced disappearances, and detentions by both Military Intelligence and the RSF.<\/p>\n

Dozens of human rights violations against journalists and other media workers have been reported since April 15. Most newspapers and radio stations have been forced to close because of the fighting and the attacks.<\/p>\n

Before April 15, Sudan already ranked 148 out of 180 in the 2023 Reporters Without Borders World Press Freedom Index.<\/p>\n
