Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan National Prisons Service (SSNPS) will soon be re-named as Correctional Services, according to the security institution\u2019s spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Anthony Oliver Legge.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sudans Post on Monday in Malakal, Oliver disclosed that plans are underway to improve the existing prisons and reformatory infrastructure in order to raise the habitable standards of the inmates.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the amendment of the laws, we are going to shift from prison to correction and in prison concept when we want to become correctional service is not just by chance but we should have vocational training for inmates whereby we will rehabilitate and trained the inmates,\u201d Oliver said.<\/p>\n

Oliver who arrived in Malakal from Juba on Monday to launch the Vocational Training Center of Malakal said the prisons service will provide space for the integration of ex-mates into society in order to reduce recidivism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of the integration of these inmates to their different communities and the societies and this one will grantee that they should not be coming back to the prison,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The prison spokesman said the correctional service will meet the standards of other prisons in the East African communities and other African countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur standard and the level of the work performed in prison service will elevate and we will be putting ourselves to be actual rehabilitative and reformative institution as stipulated in the constitution of the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
