Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The newly appointed mayor of Juba City Council (JCC), Michael Lado Thomas, on Tuesday launched the start of a campaign to demolish illegal structures and open roads that had been blocked by squatters in the city.<\/p>\n

On assuming office at the end of last month, Mayor Lado said the program launched by his predecessor, Kalisto Lado, to organize the city would continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we the authorities of Juba City Council are launching the start of the demolition of squatters and shanties which were constructed on the roads behind the president\u2019s residence,\u201d Mayor Lado said. \u201cWe found that some of the people whose properties were marked for demolition had already removed them but that some of them did not and we were able to demolish the illegal structures to ensure that the roads are opened.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWe were able to open the roads so as implement our plan of organizing the city of Juba and transform it into a modern city.\u201d For his part, the executive director at JCC, Al-Fateh Mirghani Ajel, said that the process of opening roads is part of the implementation of projects for cleaning and organizing the city and for improving the environment so that it is a destination for many.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are implementing the program to make the city clean and organized so that we are all proud to live in it. So, today we are opening the roads in Juba Na\u2019Bari,\u201d Mirghani said.<\/p>\n
