Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The National Election Commission (NEC) expressed optimism over the preparations for the elections, saying that there is an overwhelming readiness for the elections from the four states visited by the officials.<\/p>\nThe Spokesperson of the National Elations Commission (NEC) George Lemi said the residents of Jonglei, Warrap, Lakes and Central Equatoria states have welcomed the idea of voting in the coming elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell everything is in place, the states have shown support for the elections, all the four states, the government and the political parties are all ready for elections,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said there are minor renovations needed to be done to accomplish some of the National Election Commission in the states.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government of Lakes State, the governor himself have allocated big premises suitable for the conduct of the upcoming election as well as the National Election Commission for the state High Election Committee to fund their duties and responsibilities and activities during the upcoming elections,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cIt is only that the building just needs some smaller minor renovations which will take a few days, it is a big and good building that the office of the NEC can operate in.\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor of Warrap State, Kuol Muor, also allocated premises for the electoral body to prepare for the exercise while his counterpart in Jonglei State allocated a big piece of land for the construction of the satellite office.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe land is given to the National Election Commission and it will be built by the Commission itself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The National Election Commission aims to reconstitute the State High Election Committee in the ten states and the three administrative areas in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe found the members are there, but some of them died and others are active and that is one of the reasons for visiting the state offices to meet the former members and to come up with the observations and analysis and then compel reports after all the visits, thereafter, we will reconstitute the State Higher Elected Committee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Lemi, the NEC was also able to meet with all stakeholders in the four states, with all governors showing their readiness for the approaching elections.<\/p>\n
On Monday last week, the commissioners began travelling to the states and administrative areas to assess their offices in preparation for the upcoming December 2024 elections.<\/p>\n
The National Election Commission (NEC) is scheduled to start voter registration in June. These actions came after the commission claimed that it had received SSP22 billion from the unity government to carry out pre-election responsibilities.`<\/p>\n
The peace parties were supposed to begin a political engagement on Friday to find common ground on the sensitive election issue.<\/p>\n
However, no substantive results emerged from the first day of the meeting, despite a joint news conference to promise citizens that a consensus on whether as well as how to organize elections would be achieved.<\/p>\n
