Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>One police officer was killed, and another was injured after local security forces clashed with armed youths Thursday, authorities say.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred during an operation to recover 40 sheep believed to have been stolen by youths from Mayom County during a raid in neighboring Rubkona County last January.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sudans Post today, Mayom County Police Director Maluke Char said that the sheep have been recovered and will be returned to Rubkona County.<\/p>\n

The clash resulted in the death and injury of the officers, while the suspected sheep raiders fled and remain at large.<\/p>\n

The wounded officer is receiving treatment at Mayom County Hospital and is reportedly improving.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo arrests have been made yet, but the Mayom County government is working to apprehend those involved in the Rubkona County raid,\u201d Char said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want a good relationship with our neighboring communities and will strive to prevent insecurity. It\u2019s important for us to maintain control and build peaceful relations with Rubkona,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Char reported an improvement in security in western Mayom County, although sporadic cross-border cattle raids with neighboring Warrap continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe value peaceful coexistence with our neighbors. It is important to promote peace and protect border communities,\u201d Char emphasized.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will ensure the stolen sheep are returned to their rightful owners in Rubkona County,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
