Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMISS, Nicholas Haysom, hailed the leadership of the Strategic Defence and Security Review Board (SDSR-B) for completing the security sector transformation policies in Chapter II of the peace deal.<\/p>\n In his closing remarks during the closure of the validation workshop organised by the SDSR-B at Crown Hotel, Haysom said the completion of the documents lays an important foundation for the long-term future of the security sectors in the country.<\/p>\n \u201cI would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Strategic Defence and Security Review Board, Chair and co-chairs on the successful implementation of the critical documents that for the first time will establish South Sudan\u2019s vision and bridge the security sectors,\u201d Haysom said.<\/p>\n He added, \u201cIt is an important milestone because it is a key in the implementation of the peace agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt is key for the people of South Sudan to feel safe and secure in a way that can enable them to pursue their social, cultural, and economic aspirations for the future and bright future for South Sudan as a country.\u201d<\/p>\n Haysom highlighted the importance of the security sector reform by being a symbol of national unity and creating a national institution that represents a nation.<\/p>\n \u201cSecurity sector reform is quite essentially, it is driven by the national value. It is a symbol of national unity and creates a national institution that is representative of the nation itself,\u201d Haysom said.<\/p>\n UNMISS boss assured the board of the UNMISS support in implementing critical tasks necessary for the security sector transformation.<\/p>\n \u201cUNMISS is very honoured to have the opportunity to accompany the Strategic Defence and Security Review Board on its important journey in partnership with it as well as JMEC, and we look forward to ensuring our continued support of UN partnership with the people of South Sudan as the country embarks on the critical tasks necessary to accomplish the security sector transformation goal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n On Thursday, the leadership of the Strategic Defence and Security Review Board finalised the validation workshops on the security sector transformation policies as per Chapter II of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan(R-ARCSS 2018).<\/p>\n Angelina Teny, the chairperson of the Strategic Defence and Security Review Board, said the security sectors would undergo reform to be restructured for future commands in the country.<\/p>\n \u201cThe transformation process is the reform to be undertaken in the security sector, which will gradually lead to the overall restructuring of the architecture of the security sector, including future command and forces of the armies and all organized forces,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n source:cityreviewss<\/b><\/p>\n For More News And Analysis About South-Sudan<\/a> Follow Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" John Akoon Africa-Press – South-Sudan.
