{"id":57787,"date":"2024-05-07T16:22:59","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T16:22:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-sudan\/all-news\/aweil-chiefs-suspended-amid-land-dispute"},"modified":"2024-05-07T16:58:28","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T16:58:28","slug":"aweil-chiefs-suspended-amid-land-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-sudan\/all-news\/aweil-chiefs-suspended-amid-land-dispute","title":{"rendered":"Aweil chiefs suspended amid land dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Two executive chiefs in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, have been suspended over a land dispute that sparked tension between residents of Aweil North and West counties.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"sudan-908185508\"><\/a>The incident occurred on Sunday when Dut Majak Majak and Gar Deng, chiefs from the respective counties, clashed over a construction project in the Wadwil area.<\/p>\n<p>Information Minister Zechariah Garang Lual told reporters the dispute began when Chief Majak halted construction activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two chiefs have been suspended \u2013 Dut Majak and Gar Deng \u2013 over the land dispute,\u201d Lual said. \u201cThe issue has been dragging on, and we don\u2019t want it to escalate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lual added that local lawmakers, including Dut Biar, travelled from Juba to intervene but were unable to locate the governor, who was meeting returnees in Eastern Aweil County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo prevent a potential fight in Wadwil, the decision was made to suspend the chiefs,\u201d Lual explained. \u201cReplacements have been appointed, and their cases will be reviewed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Majak denied receiving any official notification of his suspension.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t been given a letter,\u201d Majak said. \u201cPeople just tell me I\u2019m suspended. How can I be suspended without an official document?
