Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The governor of Western Equatoria State Alfred Futuyo made a surprising suggestion that the parties to the revitalised peace agreement should postpone the election until 2040 if the status quo remains.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the official launch of the National SPLM Political School in Maridi County, Governor Futuyo stressed the need to implement the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement to achieve an inclusive political environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet there be political space and security arrangements, unify the army, and free Dr. Riek Machar the SPLM-IO chairman, as that will pave the way to the general election,\u201d he appealed.<\/p>\n

Futuyo said that failure to address the prerequisites would inevitably prolong the country\u2019s democratic gap until 2040.<\/p>\n

However, Vice President of the Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani Igga, who is also the first deputy chairman of SPLM, retorted to this, arguing that Machar had not been confined in Juba and he is free to conduct his activities.<\/p>\n

Dr. Igga reassured the public that political parties have the freedom to conduct their activities without hindrance.<\/p>\n

He added that the government\u2019s commitment to dispatch remaining forces to training centres this month, warning that non-compliance would be treated as criminal, particularly in the Greater Tambura and greater Upper Nile region.<\/p>\n

Governor Futuyo\u2019s resolute call for electoral reform underscores the mounting urgency for cohesive political action in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

With the delayed elections looming large, the nation stands at a pivotal juncture, necessitating swift and decisive measures to realize a future anchored in peace, unity, and democratic governance.<\/p>\n
