Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The members of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) lamented the skyrocketing prices of necessities such as water, fuel, flour, and other essential items in Juba.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Monday during the parliamentary session, Nyibol Bol who represents Warrap State said that some ministers had neglected their duties.<\/p>\n

He lamented that the sluggishness had also led to the delay in the disbursement of salaries of civil servants and organized forces.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs per Chapter 1 of the peace agreement, what is the reason for delaying the salary of the civil servants? The minister will be appointed like the minister of finance, who keeps travelling now and then and claims that there is no money,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is amidst the delay in salaries of government employees every month, partially due to the absence of some ministers who travel abroad, leaving the issues of civil servants unattended. We must allocate the budget towards supporting agriculture for the welfare of citizens,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He asserted that the country should not rely on international communities but address its own issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrices of essential goods have skyrocketed. For example, a barrel of water now costs SSP3000 and a bag of flour also costs SSP3000, while transportation costs between places have increased,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson of the Specialized Committee for Information, Natalina Juma, attributed rising prices to the depreciation of the South Sudanese pound.<\/p>\n

Juma alleged that prices in the market are controlled by individuals, but this, she said is supposed to be the preserve of the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cTransactions are supposed to be done by the government, so the benefit goes to the government. If it is done by the government, we have something to gain as South Sudan,\u201d she averred.<\/p>\n

Juma called on the House to urgently address the issue of rising market prices in Juba and other parts of the country.<\/p>\n
