Timo Olkkonen expressed concerns over the mismanagement of oil revenue.<\/p>\n Speaking of the celebration of European Union Day in Juba on Thursday, Amb. Olkkonen lamented the detrimental impact of what he termed a \u201cresource curse\u201d on South Sudan\u2019s development.<\/p>\n \u201cFossil fuels are dinosaur technology,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n He discouraged the use of fossil-based technology citing the perilous consequences of climate change and stressed the urgent need for modern and environmentally friendly energy alternatives.<\/p>\n The diplomat acknowledged the importance of oil to South Sudan\u2019s economy and lamented that the profits derived from this valuable resource have not adequately benefited the South Sudanese people.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have been squandered and misused exacerbating the challenges faced by the population,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n He underscored the need to redirect focus towards renewable and sustainable resources, such as agriculture and biodiversity, which have been neglected for decades.<\/p>\n Despite facing adversity, Amb. Olkkonen commended the resilience of the South Sudanese people, noting their remarkable tenacity in the face of hardship.<\/p>\n \u201cThe recent economic downturn has exacerbated difficulties for many, yet solidarity within communities remains strong as individuals support each other through tough times,\u201d said Amb. Olkkonen.<\/p>\n Olkkonen addressed the influx of over 650,000 refugees fleeing the war in Sudan, acknowledging the strain it places on South Sudan.<\/p>\n He applauded the South Sudanese government\u2019s welcoming attitude towards refugees, which he said is in line with the need for continued support and solidarity.<\/p>\n He said,\u201d Such welcoming attitudes deserve recognition and applause, showcasing the country\u2019s commitment to compassion and solidarity.\u201d<\/p>\n In the context of regional conflicts, Amb.
