Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Greater Equatoria region finally endorsed President Salva Kiir as the sole SPLM flag bearer for the upcoming election, putting to rest months of preparation.<\/p>\nThe region proclaimed during the mega rally that brought the three states of Greater Equatoria together in Juba.<\/p>\n
In his address to thousands of supporters of the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) at Dr John Garang Mausoleum over the weekend, the governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong, who chaired the high-level committee for the endorsement, said the region was fully behind Kiir.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of all the SPLM members of the greater Equatoria region, namely, Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, and Western Equatoria states, and on my behalf, the SPLM Chairperson in Eastern Equatoria, we stand beside you in support of this endorsement,\u201d Lobong said.<\/p>\n
Governor Lobong said the Equatoria region believes in President Salva Kiir and continues to hope that under his leadership, South Sudan will realise its development goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs our only sole flagbearer and presidential candidate for the December 2024 general election, we, the people of Equatoria, stay united in support of your excellent leadership. We believe and trust in your wisdom, and we are confident that under your leadership, South Sudan will thrive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, President Kiir welcomed the endorsement, describing it is a great honour for the whole SPLM.<\/p>\n
\u201cComrades, this endorsement is an honour not only for me but also for all the SPLM party members across this country. On behalf of the SPLM members, I accepted this endorsement,\u201d Kiir said.<\/p>\n
The head of state appreciated the Equatoria region for their constant support for the country since liberation and that such vigour had been displayed in the endorsement.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy appreciation to you for endorsing me as the sole candidate for the SPLM for the upcoming election in December,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kiir encouraged the SPLM members to continue with mobilization for the upcoming election while his leadership continues to engage political parties for dialogue.<\/p>\n
In December 2022, the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Council nominated President Kiir as the flag bearer for the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n
This was later followed by several endorsements across the country, including the recent endorsement in Wau, the headquarters of the Bahr el Ghazal region.<\/p>\n
Also, during the Bahr el Ghazal region endorsement, Kiir, who is also the chairman of the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party, welcomed his endorsement as the outfit\u2019s candidate ahead of next year\u2019s general elections. Addressing thousands of party members and supporters who gathered in the Western Bahr el Ghazal State capital, Wau President Kiir said he was gratified to be chosen as the party\u2019s flag bearer for the 2024 elections.<\/p>\n
