Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The newly-elected leadership of the South Sudan BAR Association called for the reconciliation among the two factions of lawyers and advocates who competed in the last election.<\/p>\n Addressing the media Friday, the President of the South Sudan BAR Association, Arop Malueth, called on the lawyers to reconcile to enable the new leadership to deliver its promises and the BAR to heal from the past cracks.<\/p>\n \u201cWe welcome the decision to accept the result and give the chance to the bar association to be functional. We know all of us, and we have suffered from the disorganisation and the existence of two bar associations,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a laughable situation as lawyers who are legal-minded people that we failed to organize ourselves; we came from very far to this situation. So, I believe this process was historical and was blessed, and I am sure we will deliver to the expectations of the lawyers,\u201d added Malueth.<\/p>\n He assured the lawyers that there would be no factions of Alliance or Reform and Prosperity but one functional BAR Association in the country.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Emmanuel Gandhi, the deputy president, noted that the leadership is going to serve all the lawyers of South Sudan and that there is no more misunderstanding but reconciliation and unity for easier service delivery.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not an easy thing to come today to celebrate; we fought that day. As all of you know, we began on [May] 17 up to [May] 29….and today is Friday; it is your Freedom Day,\u201d Gandhi said.<\/p>\n According to him, the leadership is going to serve the interests of all lawyers and advocates in the country, because it will not view the members as part of any faction.<\/p>\n \u201cI am calling upon all lawyers to reconcile and to unite so that we can deliver together. All of us, as lawyers, deliver on our expectations. Let us forgive ourselves. Whether you are from the Alliance group or the Reform and Prosperity group, let us unite to save our people and South Sudan advocates,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n The factions, Reform and Prosperity and Advocates Alliance\u2014each led fierce campaigns pitching their ideas to the voters before the exercise in the week.<\/p>\n On Thursday, Reech Ring of Reform and Prosperity, who was competing with Arop Malueth, accepted the results of the election and congratulated the latter for winning the trust of lawyers and advocates in South Sudan.<\/p>\n \u201cWe congratulate our colleague in the Advocates Alliance group for winning the trust of the lawyers in the country, so we are going to cooperate for the success of the BAR association,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n On Wednesday, the lawyers and advocates had the election of the BAR Association leadership where the Advocates Alliance group won with 719 votes to Reform and Prosperity had 700 votes.
