Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Lakes State kicked off a three-month training program for local government administrators on Wednesday, partnering with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to strengthen service delivery at the county level.<\/p>\n

Themed \u201cStrengthening the Local Government Administration on Capacity for Service Delivery,\u201d the initiative underscores the government\u2019s commitment to improving governance, according to Kaman Makuenyar, chairperson of the specialized committee for local government, peace, and security in the Lakes State transitional assembly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate the support from UNDP for initiating this important training,\u201d Makuenyar said, highlighting the crucial role administrators play in implementing policies and ensuring the rule of law reaches local communities.<\/p>\n

UNDP Resident Representative Dominic Sam emphasized the program\u2019s significance in fostering development and peace. \u201cThis is a key intervention of our mission,\u201d he said, commending the Lakes State government\u2019s dedication to empowering local structures.<\/p>\n

Sam pointed out that local administrators are the backbone of the civil service, acting as the first point of contact for citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou play a crucial role in delivering services, fostering development, and maintaining internal peace and security,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The training program will equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge in public administration, financial management, conflict resolution, and community engagement.<\/p>\n

UNDP highlighted the program\u2019s aim to enhance capacity for service delivery with integrity, transparency, and accountability.<\/p>\n

Lakes State Minister of Local Government Chol Kuotwel Manhom underscored the importance of the training, particularly for administrators working in complex environments at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey need the capacity to deal with these challenges,\u201d Manhom said.<\/p>\n

Manhom emphasized the link between good governance and trained administrators, stating, \u201cGood governance cannot happen if there are no trained practitioners.\u201d<\/p>\n

He expressed gratitude to UNDP for its support, highlighting its potential for long-term impact.<\/p>\n

The training program will be performance-based, with evaluations influencing assignments and promotions.<\/p>\n
