Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Director of Disability Affairs in the Office of the Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster, Stephen Dhieu Kuach, was detained by police on Wednesday for allegedly selling a government vehicle.<\/p>\n

Kuach, who is visually impaired, is accused of selling a government vehicle assigned to him.<\/p>\n

Kuach, in an interview with Sudans Post, denied the allegations and called the detention \u201cpolitical persecution\u201d due to his affiliation with the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was arrested in my office yesterday and later transferred to the Northern Division police station in Juba,\u201d Kuach said. \u201cI am still under detention and have not been informed of the charges.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kuach appealed to Kiir to intervene, stating, \u201cThe solution is for President Salva Kiir to intervene and say no to what his deputy is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

David Dau Achuoth, Executive Director in the Vice President\u2019s office, confirmed Kuach\u2019s detention but offered a different explanation.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Kuach requested the car to facilitate a visit to Mangalla,\u201d Achuoth told Sudans Post. \u201cHe disappeared for three weeks without official leave and the car is now missing from the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He pointed out that \u201cAn investigation committee determined the car was no longer in South Sudan. Mr. Kuach returned to the office, and when questioned about the vehicle, he refused to cooperate. Security personnel were then instructed to detain him for questioning.\u201d<\/p>\n
