Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The National Election Commission (NEC) has pushed voter registration to July, citing several challenges facing the institution.<\/p>\n

The chairperson of the NEC, Prof. Abednego Akok, tied the change of plan to the bid to restructure the committees and put in place offices across the states and administrative areas to allow the registration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good thing is that the training of the commission members will begin so that they can start voter registration next month,\u201d Akok said, as quoted by Radio Tamazuj.<\/p>\n

The NEC boss, however, claimed that his administration has secured offices in ten states pending the administrative areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext week, we shall form commissions for elections in the 10 states because these are the places for voter registration. Our greatest achievement so far is the training of our commission members, and we brought in experts from Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda. Another achievement is that we toured the 10 states, and we will make sure those offices start work next week,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In April, Prof Akok announced that voter registration would begin in June.<\/p>\n

While addressing journalists, he stated that the national government has allocated funds for the election process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are procedures which must be fulfilled, one of them, in your Boma, your Payam, your county, your state, your name must be registered-that is voter education which will begin in June this year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Also recently, the age assessment team was reported to have cleared 850 people to process the nationality identification cards in Morobo County.<\/p>\n

According to the statement obtained by The City Review, the County Commissioner of Morobo County, Joseph Mawa, revealed that plans are underway to ensure that every resident in the county gets an ID card.<\/p>\n

He revealed that the immigration team arrived in Morobo to issue the identification forms and ensure that people get identification cards.<\/p>\n
