Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Western Bahr el-Ghazal State farmers have reported a higher production compared to last years\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Farmer\u2019s Union Information Secretary, Suleiman Ramadhan Juma, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Friday that this year\u2019s harvest would be better than the previous year\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Juma said the state had not experienced any insecurity, hence the improved productivity.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the communities have cultivated this year and I hope the production will be better. The insecurity challenges they faced last year were no longer there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe security has been stable and all farmers were going on with their daily activities without fears,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Juma noted that though floods had affected some parts, the impact on agriculture, specifically in Jur River County and Raja, was minimal.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that the local produce had started arriving in the markets, occasioning a minor decrease in the prices.<\/p>\n

Juma expressed his joy with the local and the international agriculture partners for their support to the farmers this year, especially with seeds.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me appreciate the efforts and the help they offered to the local farmers through the State Ministry of Agriculture, including with local tools and seeds,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Juma said the Bank of Agriculture\u2019s support to the farmers had a big impact and urged the institution to stand with the locals again next year.<\/p>\n

He said the challenges included lack of modern farming methods, tools and certified seed and called on the national government to provide the local farmers with tools and tractors.<\/p>\n
