Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>National Minister for Youth and Sports Joseph Geng Akech on Tuesday unveiled the Sports Development Policy 2024\u20132030 in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA).<\/p>\n

The policy aims at empowering the South Sudanese youth through sports.<\/p>\n

This policy, which was approved at last week\u2019s Council of Ministers meeting, also seeks to monetize sports by organizing a Sports Financing Conference to attract investors and encourage support for activities.<\/p>\n

Geng said the policy would also aim to establish a sports science institute.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe policy aims to establish a sports science institute and I am happy to announce that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has already drafted a memorandum of understanding that is being reviewed for signing with the University of Juba,\u201d he said, adding the university will run the institute.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe aim to launch sports television and radio for advertisement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Geng further revealed that the last program proposed by the policy is posturing strategic investment in sports infrastructure such as the construction and renovation of stadiums in 10 states and three administrative areas by 2030.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe policy aims to construct and renovate stadiums throughout the states by 2030, the purchase of sport equipment and uniform, construction of Olympic village and a complex which was pledged by the President, and lastly, the development of sports academies and clubs by the private sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The minister said that once implemented, South Sudan could become the leading sports country in the East African region by 2030.<\/p>\n
