Africa-Press<\/a> – South-Sudan<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan\u2019s incumbent president, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, who has led his country through a brutal civil war for the last seven, has received an African Peace Award for this year 2021.<\/p>\n

According to the office of the president, His Excellency President Salva Kiir won the peace medal for his tireless efforts to bring peace and stability to both Sudan and South Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cH.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit received the African Peace Award 2021, which he won for his tireless efforts to bring Peace in South Sudan and Sudan.\u201d Read part of the president\u2019s press office statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe African Peace Award 2021 was presented to H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit by the African Private Television Union during an event held in Juba at Freedom Hall.\u201d They continued.<\/p>\n

The event was witnessed by the Deputy Chairperson of Sudan Sovereign Council Hamdan Dagalo Hemeti, First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster Taban Deng Gai, senior government officials and constitutional Post holders.<\/p>\n

In his remarks during the Ceremony, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit said working for peace is not an easy task that can be achieved overnight but through dealing with many challenges, making painful decisions and having tolerance to hear the other side.<\/p>\n

\u201cH.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit urged all South Sudanese and Sudanese to rededicate the efforts at individual and collective levels to overcome the various challenges in order to pave the way for a total peace in the two sisterly Countries.\u201d The President\u2019s press office said.<\/p>\n

H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit applauded African Television Union for honoring him with the first peace award.<\/p>\n

The lead mediators, Tut Gatluak Manime, and Dr. Dhieu Mathok, Deputy Chairperson of Sudan Sovereign Council Hamdan Dagalo, and Mohammed Hassan Osman Altaishi were also given awards for their active roles in the Sudanese peace process.<\/p>\n

South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in July 2011 but went back to war with itself in 2013 which lasted another six years.<\/p>\n

Despite relative calm in South Sudan for the last one year, there is little hope for election at the end of the transitional period as the peace agreement has not been implemented as signed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
