Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Henrik Stabell, the Country Director of Norwegian People\u2019s Aid (NPA), has urged the South Sudanese government to involve traditional leaders in the drafting of the country\u2019s new constitution.<\/p>\n

Stabell made this call during his visit to Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria State, where he will attend the third anniversary celebrations of the Azande Kingdom.<\/p>\n

Atoroba Peni Rikito Gbudue, the current King of the Azande Kingdom, ascended to the throne on February 9, 2022, following the restoration of the kingdom after the death of his great-grandfather, King Gbudwe, in 1905.<\/p>\n

South Sudan is currently racing against time to draft a new constitution in line with the 2018 Peace Agreement, with elections scheduled for December 2026.<\/p>\n

Upon his arrival in Yambio, Stabell emphasized the critical role of traditional authorities in governance and decision-making, underscoring that their participation is essential in shaping the country\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

\u201cTraditional authority leaders have a special mandate with the people of South Sudan. As the country drafts a new constitution, their participation is essential,\u201d Stabell said.<\/p>\n

Stabell also commended the Azande Kingdom for its resilience and ongoing development projects, including the construction of a new capital.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sabri Isaac Gbuku, chairman of the Azande Kingdom\u2019s third anniversary celebrations, welcomed ambassadors and international delegates from the United Kingdom, the Kabaka Kingdom, and Morocco.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the importance of the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the kingdom\u2019s new administrative block\u2014117 years after the original building\u2019s collapse.<\/p>\n

Prince and Prime Minister Tabeo Mario Sasa expressed gratitude for Norwegian People\u2019s Aid\u2019s long-standing support for South Sudan, particularly in peacebuilding and humanitarian efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a special occasion to welcome the Director to attend our 3rd anniversary. You are here to represent all the people of Norway who have contributed so much to this country. Feel at home,\u201d Tabeo said.<\/p>\n

The celebrations will conclude on Sunday with His Majesty, the King of Azande, officially laying the foundation stone for the administrative block.<\/p>\n
