Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>About 500 athletes are expected to take part on January 29, 2022, in the Wau Marathon of South Sudan Run, the organising committee for the event revealed.
\nThe revelation came on Tuesday after the Wau Marathon members of the organising committee led by Karlo Arigo Wani briefed Western Bahr el Ghazal Governor, Sarah Cleto, on the progress of the final preparations.
\nWani stated that approximately 85 per cent of the preparations had been completed and that the committee was only left with a few minor tasks to complete.
\n\u201cWe have met with local athletic federation leaders, the minister of youth, culture and sports of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Wau town, including Governor Sarah Cleto,\u201d Wani told the media on Tuesday in Wau town.
\n\u201cWe have briefed her about final touches, 85 per cent of the programme has been achieved.\u201d
\nThe leader of the organising committee urged people to turn up for the event in large numbers and run for peace in the country.
\n\u201cI am inviting the people who are residing in Wau, and other neighbouring communities of IGAD in East Africa here to come and participate in the run for sustainable peace in the Republic of South Sudan, particularly in Wau town,\u201d he stated.
\nMeanwhile, Abdurrahman Idris, president of the WBGS local athletic federation, said the Wau local federation is ready and waiting for the 29th Marathon Day.
\n\u201cWe are ready for the 10-kilometre marathon, which will be on January 29, 2022, here in Wau town,\u201d he stressed.
\nHe confirmed that approximately three states and two administrative areas will compete. It is targeting 500 athletes from Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Lakes, Warrap, Unity State, Abyei and Ruweng Administrative Areas respectively.
\nMr Idris called on all the sports fans in the state, including other states, to join in participating in the South Sudan Run for Peace.
\nAccording to the official, the aim of the January 29 10 km Wau Marathon is to bring together all the athletes from different states as well as other sports lovers in the country.
\n\u201cWe are looking forward to a great event and are inviting everyone in Wau to attend. We are also expecting guests from around the country.\u201d
\nThe 10 km Wau marathon, (South Sudan Run), will take place in Wau this month on January 29th and will be held under the theme \u201cRun for Sustainable Peace in South Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n
