Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Jonglei State is charting a bold path toward sustainable agricultural development, with renewed efforts to transform its agriculture and fishery sectors into engines of economic growth.<\/p>\nThis ambitious agenda is being spearheaded by Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok, who recently hosted a high-level delegation led by Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, alongside the National Minister of Livelihood and Fisheries.<\/p>\n
The visit aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation and accelerate sustainable development in the state\u2019s agriculture sector. It also provided a valuable platform for engagement between government officials, technical experts, and local stakeholders to explore strategic partnerships and areas of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
Governor Riek underscored the importance of unlocking Jonglei\u2019s vast natural potential, noting that his administration is committed to modernizing farming practices, improving infrastructure, and encouraging community involvement in agribusiness to deliver meaningful, long-term benefits.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are expanding our focus on food production across Jonglei State,\u201d said Vice President Abdelbagi. \u201cWe\u2019ve made a strategic shift to advance the agricultural sector beyond its current efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n
He affirmed the national government\u2019s full support for Jonglei\u2019s initiatives, pledging continued technical assistance and policy backing. \u201cOur approach is holistic\u2014modernizing farming techniques, promoting agribusiness, enhancing market access for farmers, and advancing inclusive growth policies,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
A key highlight of the visit was the emphasis on registering local farmers to ensure they can benefit from national support programs. Agriculture Minister Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec urged farmers across Jonglei to take part in the initiative, which will provide access to training, agricultural inputs, market linkages, and financial incentives.<\/p>\n
However, Onyoti stressed that these benefits depend on lasting peace within and between communities. \u201cThis progress is only possible if our people live in peace with their neighbors,\u201d he said, commending Governor Riek for his investment in infrastructure and proactive agricultural policies.<\/p>\n
He also called on the youth to take advantage of the growing opportunities in agriculture and fisheries. \u201cThere are immense possibilities within the agricultural value chain, and the youth must seize them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The delegation, which included experts from various government agencies and allied sectors, will coordinate planning and oversee the rollout of key agricultural programs in the state.<\/p>\n
This integrated initiative is expected to not only boost food production in Jonglei but also position the state as a strong player in regional and international agricultural markets.<\/p>\n
