Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>SPLM-IO Gand Kitgwang faction signed a peace accord yesterday in Khartoum in an effort to bring lasting peace and find permanent solutions. Among the content peace deal signed includes granting Amnesty to the Kitgwang group, total ceasefire, total cessation of hostilities, cantoning their soldiers, Training and integration in to SSPDF, among others.<\/p>\n

Earlier the Kitgwang delegation representative Gen. Morris Urach told the media that, they have agreed on important principles that will culminate into signing ceremony on Sunday in Khartoum, adding that, the essential part of principle is geared toward military leadership structure, setting up cantonment sites and start the process of reintegration of the army.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really appreciated Kitgwang factions and the government of Khartoum for inviting the government of South Sudan in facilitating the peace process of all conflicts which will bring tranquility\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018The period of cantonment site will be followed with reintegration of the forces. We also mainly discussed on Military issues and we agreed on cantonment sites that will be located by a formed committee. We rest assure you that, there will be no more conflicts as soon as we sign this peace, since we are tired of War right from 1946 up to 2005. We really need peace and development now no more fighting\u201d.<\/p>\n

However effort to reach the government delegation mediating the peace deal was futile. The Peace deal was mediated by the government of South Sudan and under auspices of Khartoum government.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization, Edmund Yakani said that the deal reached in the Sudan\u2019s capital Khartoum between Kitgwang SPLA-IO faction and the SPLM-IG sounds good in relation of prevention of armed violence that claims lives and properties of innocent civilians in Upper Nile.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is good that the ceasefire agreement was reached and the next step is genuine implementation of Khartoum SPLA-IO Kitgwang faction and SPLM-IG,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He however said that the signing of the ceasefire agreement without the full participation of the RTGoNu is contradicting the cessation of hostilities agreement, 2017 provision in article 2.1.8 on prohibits of recruitment during the period of implementing the revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cArticle 2.1.8 under chapter 2 permanent ceasefire and the transitional security arrangement,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Kitgwang Declaration was a coup by South Sudanese rebel commander Simon Gatwech Dual on August 4, 2021, in which he replaced First Vice President Riek Machar as leader of the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement\/Army in Opposition leading to a deadly rebel infighting. The faction was later on joined Gen. Johnson Olony among others senior politicians at SPLM-IO.<\/p>\n
