He was 70.<\/p>\n<p>His daughter, Buchay Ajak, confirmed the death. Arrangements are being made to repatriate his body to the South Sudanese capital, Juba, for burial, with arrival expected next week.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of South Sudan\u2019s Board of Directors, management and staff expressed their \u201cprofound sorrow\u201d at his passing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a dedicated public servant and economist whose contributions were instrumental in stabilizing South Sudan\u2019s financial system,\u201d the central bank said in a statement Thursday. \u201cThe Bank extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ajak served as governor of the central bank from January 2017 to May 2018. His career in finance spanned more than four decades across Sudan and South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1954 in Upper Nile State, Ajak earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in economics from the University of Khartoum in 1980 and a master\u2019s degree in economics from the American University in Cairo in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>He played a pivotal role in establishing South Sudan\u2019s financial structures after its independence. Prior to his governorship, he held several senior roles at the bank, including director general and assistant governor.<\/p>\n<p>His commitment to public service extended beyond finance.
