Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Environment and Forestry, Josephine Napwon Cosmas, has claimed that the ministry of finance and planning would perform much better if a female minister headed it. According to Napwon, women who are at the national and state ministries are working harder compared to their male counterparts.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur women can do better if they are given a chance, empowered and supported. Women who are in national and state ministries are doing better. We want the ministry of finance to be given to women so that we can deal with the economy, \u201d Napwon said.<\/p>\n

She was speaking during the handing over of the nursery facility to the Central Equatoria State government by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).<\/p>\n

Napwon told the gathering that women should be allowed to participate in all the development programs so that they can be able to contribute to the nation effectively.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Josephine Lagu Yanga, said the development of the nursery facility and availability of seedlings came about as a result of the collaboration between the head of national and state line ministries of environment and agriculture.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we implement the comprehensive agriculture master plan and irrigation development master plan, we are going to eradicate hunger. The development plan is there, but we need to secure peace and investors so that we can be able to develop this nation, \u201d said Ms Lagu.<\/p>\n

The ministry of finance and planning has been riddled with controversies and challenges in equal measure. It could arguably sit at the summit of the country\u2019s most important docket. But its salience has also attracted a higher turnover rate of ministers.<\/p>\n

The current finance minister, Agak Achuil Lual, is the ninth official to serve in the institution since independence on July 9, 2011. This means that nearly every year, the country picks up a new minister for the docket. The turnover has increased in the past few years after the signing of the peace agreement, with three finance ministers being replaced.<\/p>\n
