Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Government of Jonglei State, with the support of the World Food Programme (WFP), last week launched works to rehabilitate the 422-kilometer road linking the state capital, Bor, to Ayod County.<\/p>\n

Jacob Mayom, the State Minister of Land, Housing, and Public Utilities, who inaugurated the project on behalf of Governor Riek Gai Kok, said the road works represent a crucial step toward improving connectivity and service delivery across the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur mission today is to officially launch the rehabilitation of the road from Bor to Ayod. This important event has been delegated by His Excellency, the Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok,\u201d he said. \u201cThe road project will cover a total distance of 422 kilometers, starting from Bor town and extending to Ayod and other surrounding areas,\u201d Mayom said during the launch.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Jonglei State, Michael Mading Akueth, praised WFP for its support, noting that the improved road will enhance the security of travelers and ease the delivery of humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of RRC, we are here to witness one of our major projects, coordinated in partnership with WFP and other stakeholders,\u201d he stated. \u201cThis marks a significant step in our efforts to bring transformation and strengthen the connection among our people.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, WFP\u2019s Eng. Bashir Juma Michael reaffirmed the agency\u2019s commitment to supporting efforts that improve access and strengthen resilience in Jonglei State.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project reflects our shared commitment to improving the lives of communities who rely on this vital route for trade, movement, and humanitarian access,\u201d he said. \u201cBy rehabilitating the Bor\u2013Ayod road, we aim to ensure that assistance reaches people more efficiently while also supporting long-term development.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to partner with the state authorities and local communities in making this road safer and more reliable,\u201d Eng. Juma added.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation work is expected to be completed within two months.<\/p>\n
