Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Distress is mounting over the potential implications of the ongoing arrests of senior military officers and politicians, with an analyst warning that the development could signal deeper issues within the country\u2019s governance and security structures.<\/p>\n

Ter Manyang Gatwech, Executive Director of the Nile Institute for Study of Human Rights and Transitional Justice, told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that the detention of high-ranking officials suggests that \u201csomething serious may be wrong within the system.\u201d<\/p>\n

He noted that the crackdown could point either to \u201ccredible allegations of corruption and misuse of public resources\u201d or to \u201csuspicions of political manoeuvring against the current administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Manyang, accountability is necessary if wrongdoing is proven.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one should be above the law, regardless of rank or position,\u201d he said, but cautioned that the process must be \u201chandled with wisdom, fairness, and transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n

Analysts say the arrests come at a sensitive time for the country, where political and military elites often command strong loyalties. Manyang warned that actions perceived as lacking clarity could heighten tensions rather than restore order.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of those being arrested are influential figures with loyal followers across the country,\u201d he stated. \u201cAny action taken against them must consider the broader national stability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The activist added that the developments could also reflect efforts by President Salva Kiir to consolidate authority and reinforce discipline within state institutions, noting that leadership requires decisive measures to maintain control.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch measures must always prioritise national unity over political rivalry,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

Observers say limited official communication around the arrests has fueled speculation about possible political undercurrents, underscoring calls for greater transparency.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn times like these, transparency and communication with the public are essential,\u201d Manyang emphasized. \u201cCitizens deserve to understand what is happening and why these decisions are being made.\u201d<\/p>\n

He underscored that the country\u2019s long-term stability should remain paramount, urging authorities to ensure that any actions taken \u201cstrengthen institutions, uphold justice, and protect the unity of the nation rather than create new divisions.\u201d<\/p>\n
