Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The leadership of Central Equatoria State has instructed county commissioners and security officials to remove cattle from affected areas and return them to their places of origin, enforcing a long-standing presidential directive issued by President Salva Kiir.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by the governor\u2019s office on Tuesday, the state government outlined renewed measures to evict pastoralists from Central Equatoria as part of efforts to restore public order.<\/p>\n

Under the directive, security forces have been ordered to confiscate at least five cattle from any cattle camp that refuses to comply with the evacuation order. Authorities also warned that individuals who resist or violate the directive will be arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll County Commissioners and Area Commanders are directed to implement the order strictly. Any resistance or failure to adhere to the order will lead to facing the law and confiscation of five cattle from any cattle camp that does not comply with the order,\u201d the statement read, though parts of it were unclear.<\/p>\n

The government says the operation aims to reduce ongoing tensions and conflicts between farmers and cattle herders in the state.<\/p>\n

Despite a 2018 presidential order directing the removal of cattle from Central Equatoria, many herders remain in the region, a situation authorities say continues to fuel disputes with local farming communities.<\/p>\n
