FORMER MSD BOSS CHARGED WITH FIVE ECONOMIC CRIME CHARGES

AfricaPress-Tanzania: FORMER Chief Executive Officer with Medical Store Departments (MSD) Laurian Bwanakunu and Acting Director of Logistics Byekwaso Tabura appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam today charged with five economic crime charges.

Such charges include leading organized crime, abuse of position, money laundering and occasioning loss of over 3.8bn/- to a specified authority.

They were not allowed to enter plea to the charges before Principal Resident Magistrate Richard Kabate.

The magistrate ordered the two accused persons to go to remand until June 19, when the case will be mentioned, as one of the offences, notably, money laundering is not bailable.

Investigations into the case, according to the prosecution, led by State Attorney Faraji Nguka, have not been completed.

It is alleged by the prosecution that the accused persons committed the offences on diverse dates between July 2016 and June 2019 at various places within the United Republic of Tanzania.

The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) announced recently of holding the duo in connection with the offences and were remanded at PCCB’s offices in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, pending thorough investigation into the matter.
