Africa-Press – Tanzania. JKT men’s volleyball team clinched the championship title at the 2024 CDF Cup after a thrilling 3-0 victory over Ngome.
The final match, held at the Twalipo Grounds in Temeke Dar es Salaam, saw JKT dominate in a closely contested game. In the first set, JKT secured a win with a score of 25-18.
They continued their strong performance in the second set, narrowly edging out Ngome 25-21.
The final set was intensely competitive, but JKT emerged victorious with a score of 25-22, sealing their comprehensive win.
The CDF Cup tournament, which ran for over a week, is part of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF).
The tournament concluded yesterday with JKT facing the Land Force in the soccer finals at Uhuru Stadium.
Prior to the men’s volleyball final, the JKT Queens were scheduled to play against Mashujaa Queens in a prefinal entertainment match.
The CDF Cup aims to promote health and foster unity among soldiers of the TPDF.
It brings together soldiers from all commands across the country, including officers, soldiers and public servants within the military to enhance health and strengthen unity, cooperation and cohesion.
The tournament featured various sports teams from all military commands, including Headquarters Command, Army Command, Air Force Command, Navy Command, Reserve Force Command and National Service Command.
The event encompassed nine sports disciplines: football, netball, volleyball, handball, basketball, boxing and shooting.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Tanzania National Volleyball League (TNVL), held at the Mwembe Yanga Grounds in Temeke District, completed its first round.
In the women’s category, Korosho Queens topped the league standings with 12 points after winning four matches, defeating Bandari Dar 3-0, Tanzania Prisons 3-1 and Orkeeswa and Mafinga Parish 3-0 each.
In the men’s category, High Voltage emerged at the top with 12 points from four wins.
They were followed by Bandari Dar, who secured second place with three wins and 9 points. The second round of the league will commence on a date to be announced later.
