Africa-Press – Tanzania. Tanzania’s Ambassador to Japan, Baraka Luvanda, has called on the country’s tea stakeholders to seize the lucrative and stable tea market in Japan.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the Tea Board of Tanzania (TBT) in Dar es Salaam, Ambassador Luvanda emphasized the significant opportunities available for Tanzanian tea exports to Japan.
The Ambassador highlighted Japan’s large tea market, with an estimated 125 million consumers, noting that Tanzania stands to benefit greatly by exporting high-quality tea.
He urged the TBT to work closely with local farmers to increase production while maintaining high standards to meet Japan’s market demands.
“This is a critical opportunity for our country, and we must act swiftly to capitalize on it. I commend the Tanzania Tea Board’s efforts in promoting these opportunities, and I’m pleased to note that investors are already planning to invest in our tea sector,” Ambassador Luvanda remarked.
TBT’s Acting Director, Beatrice Banzi, also noted that Tanzania’s tea sector produces an annual average of 26,000 to 27,000 tonnes, generating approximately 50 million US dollars and providing employment to around 32,000 farmers.
Tanzania’s tea is primarily exported to markets such as China, Kenya, Germany, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, and Vietnam.
