Africa-Press – Tanzania. VICE-PRESIDENT Dr Philip Mpango has underscored the enduring bond between Tanzania and Uganda, saying that the two nations relationship is not only deeply rooted in history but also strengthened by a strong sense of brotherhood.

Dr Mpango made the statement during a meeting with Ugandan High Commissioner to Tanzania, Retired Colonel Fred Mwesigye at Chamwino State House in Dodoma.

He expressed Tanzania’s enthusiasm for continuing collaboration with Uganda on various international fronts, including within the United Nations, the African Union and the East African Community (EAC).

Dr Mpango stressed the importance of enhancing economic cooperation between the two nations, particularly by increasing trade and collaborating on agricultural research.

He noted initiatives such as sharing knowledge on modern farming techniques, drought-resistant crops and cross-border disease control as crucial areas for further development.

The Vice-President also outlined Tanzania’s efforts to improve its infrastructure and energy sectors to bolster business and investment.

He pointed to significant projects such as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) construction, the expansion of Dar es Salaam Port and advancements in digital cargo delivery and transportation systems, all aimed at facilitating the movement of goods.

For his part, High Commissioner Mwesigye expressed his gratitude to Tanzania and its leadership for upholding the vision of the country’s founding father, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who worked tirelessly to support African nations, including Uganda, in their quest for independence.

He also thanked the government of Tanzania for approving the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project to transit of oil discovered in Uganda from Hoima to Chongoleani in Tanga.

He noted that the EACOP project has already brought substantial economic and social benefits to the areas it traverses, even before the oil is transported.
