ACT-Wazalendo’s Othman submits presidential nomination forms

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE National Chairman of ACT-Wazalendo and Zanzibar First Vice-President, Mr Othman Masoud Othman, officially submitted his nomination forms yesterday, seeking his party’s endorsement to run for President of Zanzibar in the upcoming General Election.

Mr Othman handed in his forms at ACTWazalendo’s headquarters in Vuga, Zanzibar, marking a significant milestone in the party’s election preparations.

Speaking to journalists after the submission, Mr Othman said that his presidential bid is driven by a strong commitment to defend the interests of the people of Zanzibar and to ensure that they fully enjoy their civil rights.

“I am committed to implementing meaningful economic reforms that will empower Zanzibar to manage its own economy and improve the quality of life for its citizens,” he said.

Mr Othman said that his candidacy aligns with the party’s broader mission of effecting change, fighting poverty and uplifting communities struggling with economic and social hardships.

His announcement makes him the first opposition leader in Zanzibar to officially declare his intention to run for the presidency.

At the same event, held at the party’s sub-headquarters in Vuga, ACT-Wazalendo’s leader, Ms Dorothy Semu, declared that the party will fully participate in the upcoming General Election, contesting leadership positions across both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

She also declared intention to run for the Union presidency. She explained that this decision was made after the party’s National Executive Committee thoroughly analysed the political situation in the country and resolved to proceed with participation.

She further said that participating in the elections is crucial for defending the value of the vote and ensuring that citizens are provided with opportunity to choose leaders of their choice.

“ACT-Wazalendo is entering the race to seek the people’s mandate in order to help liberate them from poverty and socio-economic challenges they face.”
