Africa-Press – Tanzania. DEPUTY Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government -PO-RALG), Dr Festo Dugange said yesterday that the government has employed a total of 34,720 health professionals, purposely to improve health service delivery in the country.
The deputy minister said the government has continued to allocate budgets and recruit health professionals in various cadres across the country to ensue citizens get access to services they deserve.
He said between the financial years 2020/21 and 2024/25, a total of 34,720 health professionals have been employed.
According to Dr Dugange, the number include 1,851 doctors, 10,213 nurses and 22,656 from other health cadres.
The deputy minister was responding to a question posed by Ms Munira Mustapha Khatib (Special Seats-CCM) who wanted to be informed about government plans to recruit more health service providers in various hospitals, health centres and dispensaries in the country.
“I would like to hear the government’s strategies for increasing the number of doctors and nurses, especially in rural areas,” she asked.
Responding to the question, Dr Dugange said more than 70 per cent of the hired health workers have been assigned to rural health facilities.
He said the government will continue to allocate budgets and recruit health personnel in various cadres, deploying them particularly to underserved rural areas within local government authorities.
