Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PORALG) has set aside 71bn/- in the 2025/26 financial year for emergency road repairs in areas hit hard by ongoing heavy rains, including parts of Tabora Urban where some roads have been completely cut off.

Deputy Minister for PORALG, Zainab Katimba shared the update in Parliament yesterday while responding to a supplementary question from Tabora Urban MP Emmanuel Mwakasaka (CCM), who raised concerns about damaged infrastructure in several townships.

She said the government is taking urgent action to restore access in affected areas, allowing residents to resume normal social and economic activities.

“The funds will be used to reopen cut-off roads and improve access to essential services in the worst-hit areas,” Ms Katimba said.

In response to the basic question on plans to repair peripheral roads in Tabora Urban, Katimba said 703.7m/- has been allocated in the 2024/25 financial year to rehabilitate 61 kilometres of roads through the Tabora Municipal Council.

The works will also cover water infrastructure and bridge construction in Uyui, Tumbi, Kabila, Ikomwa, Ifucha, Ntalikwa, Itonjanda and Ndevelwa wards.

The projects are underway and expected to be completed by July 2025.

She added that in the 2023/24 financial year, the government spent 585.2m/- on the repair of 46.6 kilometres of roads, four box culverts, 10 circular culverts, one bridge and 500 metres of drainage in Ikomwa, Ifucha, Itetemia, Uyui, Misha, Itonjanda and Ndevelwa wards.

Ms Katimba affirmed that road and bridge improvements around Tabora and across the country will continue depending on the availability of funds, aiming to ensure reliable transport services year-round.
